Country Bumpkin in the Big City: Ch. 1

After a series of unfortunate events in Ann Arbor, I am now living and working in New York City. I began working at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) in September, as their new Communications Specialist. As skeptical as I was when I first applied for the position, I am absolutely loving it! I am working with the best group of people and doing exactly what I went to school for. Amazing how all that time and money, and more money, I put into the University of Michigan actually paid off.

Living in NYC is absolutely amazing! Not only are there places that are open past 10pm, but you can get just about anything you need 24 hours a day. Only slightly different from the happening Pellston scene. For now I am staying with J until I have enough money banked up for my own apartment; at the moment I'm shooting to move into an apartment December 1st (fingers crossed!). It's been nice having someone to show me the ropes and help me get fully acclimated to the city life. One thing I will say has taken some getting used to, with being in a M-F 9-5 job, is the limited amount of free time I have. By the time I get home at night there's about a 3 hour window of time before I'm rubbing my eyes and shuffling my way to bed. How in the world do you get anything done?? J and I have managed to fit in a few fun things though. We saw the Tales of Hoffman at the Metropolitan Opera about 2 weeks ago, and we flew up to Vermont last weekend to visit J's cousin and husband who live just outside Burlington. Both adventures were stunningly beautiful and wonderful escapes from the bustle of the city.

I know that this wasn't the most thorough of updates, but this is only the beginning. Stay tuned for the next installment of: Country Bumpkin in the Big City.
